Production Vehicle Rental Insurance
Insurance for Companies That Rent Trailers and Trucks to Film and TV Productions
Star trailers, honeywagons, makeup and wardrobe trailers, grip and electric trucks, generators, cube vans, passenger vans and picture cars. Pacific Southwest Insurance Services builds commercial auto programs for the rental houses that keep sets running, in all 50 states.
Your fleet works hard on location. Your insurance should too.
Production rental fleets don't fit a standard commercial auto policy. Units sit on stages and base camps for weeks, move between studio zones and distant locations, get driven by Teamsters and production staff, and are often required to be insured to the studio's contract limits. We work with carriers that understand rental exposure, so your policy, your certificates and your contracts line up.

Coverage built around rental operations
Every fleet is different, so we shop your program with the carriers that fit it. Depending on your operation, a policy can include:
- Commercial auto liability with limits that meet studio and production contract requirements, plus umbrella or excess options.
- Physical damage (comprehensive and collision) on trucks, tractors and trailers, valued to reflect custom builds and buildouts.
- Coverage while units are rented out, including how the policy responds when a production's own drivers are behind the wheel.
- Hired and non-owned auto for vehicles you rent in or that employees drive for the business.
- Inland marine and equipment coverage for generators, lighting, grip gear and trailer contents.
- General liability for your yard, shop and on-set operations.
- Fast certificates of insurance naming productions and studios as additional insureds and loss payees.

Frequently asked questions
Do you insure trailers that are rented without a truck?
Yes. Many rental houses deliver a trailer and leave it at base camp. We can quote trailers on their own, along with the power units that tow them.
Can you meet a studio's insurance requirements?
Send us the contract or insurance requirements and we'll build the program to match, including liability limits, additional insured wording and waivers where available.
What if the production's drivers operate my vehicles?
This is one of the most important questions for a rental fleet. We'll review how your rental agreements and policy work together so it's clear whose coverage applies.
Do you insure rental companies outside California?
Yes. We're licensed in all 50 states, so we can insure production vehicle rental companies anywhere in the country, including fleets that follow productions across state lines.
How fast can I get a certificate?
Once your policy is in place, certificates for productions and studios are turned around quickly, so your units aren't held up waiting on paperwork.
